Populus nigra italica Lombardy Poplar

DESCRIPTION: Fast growing, tall, upright, deciduous tree famous for its columnar form and unusual branching.

 

USES: Popular for wind breaks on farms and to add vertical accents to large gardens, parks and golf courses.

 

POSITION: Prefers a sunny to partly shady position in moist, well drained soil.

 

CARE: Keep moist until established. Mulch well.

 

PLANTING: Cultivate the soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so that the soil level is the same as the surrounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in well even if the soil is moist.
